Two-Day Retreat with Colin Beavan JDPSN

  • Chogye International Zen Center of New York 400 East 14th Street Apt 2D New York, New York, 10009 United States (map)

Two-Day Retreat led by Colin Beavan JDPSN.

Colin Beavan JDPSN first practiced in the Kwan Um School of Zen in 1996. He is a father, a trusted advisor and coach, and the author of several books, including How To Be Alive and No Impact Man. He lives in upstate New York, his home temple is the Chogye International Zen Center, and he received Inka in April, 2022.

A two-day retreat offers an extended period of intensive practice. The retreat begins Friday at 7:00pm and ends Sunday at 2:00pm. Each day includes sitting and walking meditation, chanting, prostrations, a work period, kong-an interviews with the teacher, and formal meals eaten in the Korean monastic style (see full retreat schedule).

Participants are encouraged to sit the full retreat and stay overnight. If you can't attend the entire retreat, you're welcome to join at one of the entry points marked on the schedule. Overnight participants should bring a sleeping bag or blankets, a towel, and toiletries.

New to Kwan Um School of Zen retreats? We recommend attending our Wednesday evening Intro to Zen session first. If you have retreat experience in another tradition, please arrive at 6:30pm Friday for a brief orientation.

Please register in advance. This helps us plan meals and overnight logistics.

Questions? Learn more about retreats, see our FAQs, or email us at info@chogyezencenter.org.

We encourage all those who can to attend the retreat in person. For those who are unable, the retreat can be accessed via Zoom. If prompted for a passcode, use 108.
