Zen and Form Workshop

Colin Beavan JDPSN will be at the Zen Center in person to lead a workshop called “Zen and Form: A Review of Our Dharma Room Practices and What They Teach Us.”

This is a wonderful opportunity for both experienced and new Dharma teachers, as well as for any practitioner who wants to learn more about our forms, so we highly encourage everyone to stay after morning practice and attend this workshop!

Human life has many codes of conduct. How we relate to those codes is part of what determines how our life unfolds. If you obey the rule about red lights too loosely, you could crash. If you obey the rule about red lights too tightly, you may not get to the hospital on time. Like life, the Kwan Um Dharma has many traditional codes of conduct, which we call "forms." Knowing our forms helps the Dharma room run more smoothly and facilitates people's practice. Also, observing how we relate to and teach those forms can help us understand and control our karma when it comes to relating to codes of conduct in the rest of the world. In this workshop, we will review basic forms in order to run our Dharma room well, but also to notice our habitual thoughts about them, and see how those thoughts reveal our life karma.
